The Department of Kannada was established in the year 1973. Since its establishment Kannada is being taught as a First language for UG programme i.e., BA & B.Com. From 2016, the department is run by full time temporary teachers and guest lecturers after the retirement of Dr. S.V. Kamalamma the then Head of the department. By the appointment of permanent faculty by the management in the year 2021 the gap has been filled. Now the department is headed by
Dr. H.R. Thippeswamy, Assistant Professor. He has well experience in the field of kannada literature. As NSS Programme officer, he encourages the students to enroll themselves for NSS and take active part in NSS activities. Department motivates the students to involve in extracurricular activities for the all round development of their personality and guides them to involve in co-curricular activities to come out of their inferiority complex. One computer installed in the library with internet facility for staff and for students the facility is available in the respective laboratory. For PPT presentation by the department Two class room with smart board and a projector is being used. In the interest of the students the department organizes special guest lecture on the topic related to kannada Literature by inviting eminent resource persons. The department adopted Conventional as well as interactive method of teaching methods.
