NCC

During First World War Britisher’s created the university corps with an aim for second line of defense and also to have a large pool of trained youth available for employment into the Armed forces. NCC in India was conceptualized and raised before independence. Mainly with an aim to groom, nurture and channelize both boys and girls energy towards nation building by making them responsible citizens NCC has been established.
NCC was formally inaugurated on 15 July 1948. The Girls Division of the NCC was raised in July 1949. On 01 April 1950 Air Wing was raised with one Air Squadron each at Bombay and Kolkata. The Naval Wing of the NCC was raised in July 1952, thus completing the true representation of all services in the Corps.
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) came into existence under the National Cadets Corps Act XXXI of 1948 under the Ministry of Defence.

The NCC is headed by Director General (DG), an army officer of the rank of Lieutenant General who is responsible for the functioning of the NCC in the country through the Directorate General NCC situated in Delhi.
At the state level, the country has been divided into 17 directorates covering all states and union territories. These directorates are headed by the army officer of the rank of Brigadier. Each of the directorate controls two to fourteen Group Head Quarters headed ny the army officer of the rank Colonel. Right now, 95 GpHq and 774 units and around 13 lakhs cadets are there in the network.
NCC has two divisions of all the three services i.e,. Senior Division/Senior Wing for boys/girls from colleges and the Junior Division/Junior Wing for boys/ girls from schools.
In the college or school level, Associated NCC Officers (ANO) looks after the activities of the NCC under the guidance and direction of the commanding officer of the battalion.
The NCC unit of ARG College of Arts and Commerce, has been recognized under the number 5/33 ‘A’ Coy NCC in 33 Karnataka battalion NCC, Davangere. The group head quarters of the battalion is in Bellary under the directorate of Karnataka & Goa.
5/33 ‘A’ Coy NCC was headed by the ANO Lt. K.S. Basavarajappa, Associate Professor, Department of English. The authorized strength of the company is 113. The NCC activities of 5/33 ‘A’ Coy NCC cadets are quite impressive and note worthy. They have been on the same track of their senior (previous) cadets by being the first in all kinds of competitions held at battalion and group level.

They are regular and punctual in attending the regular parades and camps. Their involvement can be found in all the camps like ATC, CATC, DGTREK, NIC, Army attachment, RCTC, Summer, Camel safari, TSC 7& RDC Mavlankar across the country.
After the retirement of Lt. K.S. Basavarajappa, Sri Ramesh Pujar, Department of Sociology has taken charge of NCC unit of the college official from Academic year 2022-23.

III. Aims of NCC:
a. To develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure, sportsmanship and the ideals of selfness service among the youth to make them useful citizens of the country.
b. To create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youths, to provide leadership in all walks of life including the armed forces and be always available for the service of the nation.
c. To create suitable environment so as to motivate the youth to take up a career in the armed forces.
IV. Training concept and Philosophy:
The training philosophy is based on the following concepts.
** Comprehensive training for Empowerment of youth to earn the Right to Lead.
** Module based training to cover –
a. Character building and competence development.
b. Basic military Training.
c. Social Awareness and service.
** Cadet friendly curriculum eliciting involvement and obviating additional burden on students with instructors acting as facilitators for developing competencies and talents in an individualistic as well as team centered environment.
** Innovative, interesting and safe conduct of training with high degree of visibility to inspire youth, duly supported by appropriate training infrastructure and logistics support for boy and girl cadets.
** Professional training by a pool of dedicated and competent trainers through a well-structured ‘Train the Trainer programme and Refresher programmes for broad based expertise and to enhance trainer skills.
** Progressive Institutionalized training culminating into camps / competition / activities at the National level.
** Use the internet effectively to develop camaraderie and strengthen bonding amongst NCC cadets, energies training and providing ready access to knowledge Bank.
** Inculcate National Integration through Regional and National Integration Camps.
** Offer a global perspectives and exposure through Youth Exchange Programme.
** Regular appraisal to identify redundancies and deficiencies in the organization and curriculum for suitable remedial measures.
V. Objectives of NCC Activities:-
The activities of the NCC are conducted with the following objectives
** To train volunteer youth to become confident, committed and competent leaders in all walks of life.
** To enhance the awareness level of cadets for being responsible citizens of the country.
** To provide opportunities and encourage cadets to enhance their knowledge/ awareness levels on life/soft/communication skills, character building/ personality development.
** To conduct activities to provide value based contributions towards society in terms of social and community development.
** To undertake adventure activates for development of leadership qualities and risk taking abilities.
** To provide a platform to launch ‘good – will ambassadors’ cadets’ project the image of the country overseas.
** To provide an environment to motivate cadets to take up a career in the Armed Forces.
Unique Features:
• It is not a matter of exaggeration to say that the representation of cadet Harsha C. Annegeri ,RDC 2010 was selected as Cultural Ambassadorto Dhaka, Bangladesh through YEP.
• Cadet Ravi G.M (12/83847) was the only one to represent our directorate in the NIC at IMA. Dehra Dun in 2013.

Importance of Training
Good and structured training is an essential part of any organization like NCC and hence it is given is due importance. A tremendous amount has been achieved by the corps through its well regulated system of intensive training includes Basic ,Advance and specialised training with stress laid on training
A) Intuitional Training –training organised on college as parades on a weekly basis
B) Camp Training. –Formal training organized as camps of 10-12 days duration.
C) Attachment Training.-Formal training organized by attachment with army/ naval/air force units or with officer training academies like IMA and OTA.
D) Naval Wing Acitivities.-Seamanship, Navigation, Communication, Naval Warfare are taught to cadets. Swimming, Scuba Diving and Wind Surfing are other interesting activities.
E) Air Wing Activities.-Airmanship, Aero modelling Navigation, Air Frames, Aero Engines and Microlite Flying are taught to cadets
F) Remount &Vetinary Activities.-This activity is primarily meant for horsemanship and riding.
Types of Camps.
a) Annual Training Camps (ATC). These are held within the state under the aegis of respective NCC Directorates and are of 12 days duration for senior boys / girls and 10 days for junior boys/ girls.
b) Centrally Organised Camps (ATC).- These are of an all lndia nature and are planned by HQ DGNCC in consultation with the Directorates nominated to conduct them. The centrally organized camps are :-
1) Leadership Camps (Basic and Advance).
2) ThalSainik Camp (TSC).
3) Vayu Sainik Camp (VSC).
4) Nau Sainik Camps (NSC).
5) Rock Climbing Camp
6) National integration Camps (NIC).
7) RDC and PM’s Rally.
c) Adventure Training and Sports.- These include mountaineering. Sailing, para sailing, rafting, trekking,Valley of Flowers expedition, cycle expedition, desert safari, shooting and showjumping activities.

Youth Exchange Programme (YEP). In this, selected cadets are sent to friendly foreign countries for a 10 day visit.
