Our college is multi-faculty college and so is our library. The main purpose of library is to freely disseminate knowledge, support teaching, research and academic activities and ignite the minds of youngster studying in our college. Our Library is one of the vibrant learning units in our college. All library staff works with the motto “To Give Maximum Information for Maximum Number of Times by Maximum Number of Ways in Minimum Times”.
We are giving technology based services and facilities such as Web-OPAC, reference service for searching information from online databases, e-books, e-journals, consortia, audio books, library e-newsletter, online information literacy programs, library Blog, Online Brochure, digital library, Internet facility, IRINS for Faculty showcase, INFLIBNET N-LIST e resources along with other open source tools available for research scholars, computerized issue return and attendance through barcode scanner, etc. At the same time we also provide traditional services such as reference and referral service, current awareness service, bibliographical services, reading facility, book bank facility for needy students, institutional membership of other libraries, inter library loan and library orientation programs, etc.
We have a huge collection of books which includes reference, text, self-help, personality development, biographies, autobiographies, success stories, novels and competitive exam related books in our library. We subscribe national and international journals and magazines and provide gateway to many online scholarly publications.
Every year library organizes book exhibitions, uthor meet; literature workshop, guest lectures, celebrates birth anniversaries of eminent personalities, conducts various competitions and other programs to inculcate reading habits among the students.
Through library website, web-OPAC and e-resources are accessible to users for 24/7 from any location. Library has its active website to circulate notices and updates. Also, library publishes its e-Newsletter ‘Just Information’ every six months.

The heart of an educational institution is its library, which is considered as the storehouse of knowledge. It functions as a window through which the external world can be viewed for the extension of the boundary of knowledge.
The central library of our institution is in the main building of the institution covering the ground floor of the building area nearly 3520 Sq.ft. It is fully ventilated. It has a separate, spacious and well equipped reference hall to accommodate 60 – 70 students at a time. There is a separate wing for girl’s students and faculty members. One more room has been provided for reading daily news papers and periodicals. In an another room old books have been stored (stack room.)
Library is an essential part of every institution which helps staff and students to enhance the knowledge through various resources such as books, Newspapers, Journals, Magazines and Electronic Library. Our institution library provides Borrowing, Book Bank, OPAC, Reference services, digital library with high speed internet facilities, Reprographic, Wi-Fi etc,.
The Bapuji Educational Association (Regd.) A.R.G. College of Arts and Commerce and Post Graduate library one of the oldest library with a rich collection of books, capable of meeting the changing needs and demands of present and future, was established along with the inception of the college in 1973.The rich collection of books includes 50000 books and variety of journals & periodicals. The college has a beautiful and spacious building for the library. It was constructed under contribution from the Management. Over the period of time the inflow of books and the need of the hour demanded the large accommodation. That is why the library which is a? A temple of knowledge was extended with a huge reading hall. For the development of our library the contribution of our previous librarian i.e. Sri S.R. Kamalapur should be remembered. From 2021 Dr. Chaman Sab M Present Librarian and his team are sincerely doing their effort in modernizing the library and giving maximum services to the readers A well-housed and well-managed library is the foundation of modern educational structure. To keep pace with the ever-expanding field of knowledge the library is being updated from time to time. In the revolutionary changed in the library in the field of information technology. our library has also been updated accordingly by computerizing all the date.

Library Rules
- All the readers provided with an ID card will use the same card for library access.
- Readers are not permitted to take their personal belongings inside the library. However loose sheets are permitted for rough work.
- Usage of mobiles, carrying water bottle, eatables are not permitted inside the library premises.
- All readers need to strictly adhere to library rules and maintain silence in the library. No group discussions are permitted in the library.
- If any reader found taking away library documents without the permission of the library staff, the reader will be charged accordingly and the library facilities will be withdrawn
- Suggestions for purchasing books for library and improving library facilities are appreciable.
- The borrowed books must be returned to the library within stipulated period of 15 days.
- All books must be returned on before the due date.
- Books are required to be presented physically at the Counter for return.
- Members must replace the book if lost with latest edition along with overdue charges.
- Students are required to verify the books before borrowing. Any discrepancies like missing pages etc., shall be brought to the notice of the Library staff. Otherwise, books will be verified when they are returned to the library and any discrepancies found will be fined accordingly.
- The ID card is not transferable
- In case the card is lost, kindly report immediately to the Principal / Librarian of the college in writing mentioning the details of ID Card. Members are responsible for any borrowings made against this card.
- Produce ID card whenever no due certificate is to be collected from the library.
Services Offered
Open Access
The greatest advantage that a Library can offer to its readers is its open access or open shelf system. This system enables the users to have direct and easy access to the book collection providing good opportunity and freedom to examine and browse the books. It encourages the users to develop a closer acquaintance with the diversity of information sources available in the library. Keeping this in mind, the library is practicing Open Access System.
Circulations of Books
The users are eligible to borrow books against identity card/borrower’s ticket for a period of 15 days. The books kept in reference section and the periodicals normally will not be issued. However, under certain conditions the reference textbooks are issued to the faculty for overnight reference and return.
Books Display
Books newly acquired, books on special occasions and books on and by Kuvempu and national level poets, Freedom fighters, Scientists etc. are displayed in the library.
New Arrivals
Some selected titles of new books acquired by the Library are displayed in ‘New Arrivals’ racks for the benefit of users. These books will be on display for at least one week and after that they will be made available to borrow.
Special Occasions
Books on special occasions such as Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, Dr.B.R.Amedkar Jayanthi etc., are selected and displayed in the library.
Inter Library Loan
It is not possible for any institution, however rich its resources, to buy all the books published even in a discipline. Hence, it is inevitable to depend on other organisations to share information sources for the mutual benefit of users. Books not available in Library but required by faculty members and faculty will be procured from our AVK College Library, M.S.B. College Library and D.R.M. College libraries on inter-Library loan. The INFLIBNET’s database on Internet is used for the location of the college library where the book in demand is available.
Newspaper clipping service
Newspaper clipping service is one of the most important services in a Library. This service is one of the most important services in a Library. The press clipping means the screening, scanning/cutting of news items etc., daily from newspapers in an organisation and sending them via e-mail to officials, decision-makers, teachers etc., who will find them useful. Library has also undertaken such service. Library staff will browse the Leading National Newspapers and scan the news items in relation to the higher education are scanned and clipped in the form of pdf files. These files are sent to the students, teachers regularly and to other administrative staff of the Association on demand.
Reference Services
Reference service means “Process of establishing contact between a user and his requirements in a personal way”. It is a personal service, which involves various activities, aimed at making information available to the users as easily as possible. ARG College Library is having a sound reference source collection. Professional staff of the library make use of these resources as well as those resources available outside the library. Either our staff may give the information which is required by the users or they guide them to browse the documents which contain the required information, depending upon their requirements.
Ready reference service
In ready reference service Library staff will answer the users queries with the help of dictionaries, encyclopaedias, yearbooks, etc., which are more or less fact-finding questions. On the other hand, Library staff also undertake long range service for the benefit of the user’s community. In this service, Library will offer the users the list of books on a given subject on demand.
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) facility has been provided for the benefit of the users to access databases of books, dissertations and other of our college collection. Proper training is also provided to the students, about the use of OPAC system, in the beginning of the academic year.
Training Programmes
The freshers particularly students newly admitted to Under graduate and post-graduate courses of the College are formally introduced to the library sources and services at the beginning of every academic year. The students are invited (department-wise) to the library and taken to each section by the library staff and are introduced to the diverse sources and services so as to make them familiar with the library to gain maximum use of the library. This will help them to have acquaintance with the library resources and ICT tools and techniques used for usage of resources.
E Resources and Awareness Programme
Under INFLIBNET N – LIST Library has been availing more than access 6,150 electronicjournals and 31,64,309 electronic books including e-books available through national subscription. Details of e-resourcesaccessible through the INFLIBNET’s proxy serverFor effective usage of these e-resources by academic community, the Library has been frequently arranging e-resources awareness and training programmes by inviting resource persons from concerned service providers and experts in the field.
Best Library user Award
ARG library announces best user award to attract more students to visit the library and use the resources. Data is gathered through automatic user tracking and usage data is collected through VISLIB software. Based on the above data and the observations of the library staff one best user is selected and award is given in book form.
Suggestion Box
ARG library has a suggestion box near the entrance of the library. User put their complaint/ suggestion in suggestion cum complaint box. Every Monday suggestion box is opened and strict action is taken if there is any complaint and if suggestion is good then only considered after library committee’s approval.
Career Notification
Newspapers, periodicals and internet are always browsed by the library staff for careerrelated notification. If there is any notification useful for students then suddenly thatnotification is posted in display boxWhtsup and Library Blog.
Book Exhibition
The Central Library, A.R.G. College, in collaboration with the Empanelled Book Vendors is regularly organizing the Physical & Virtual Book Exhibitions to provide an open platform to institute fraternity to visit, choice, review, recommend and procure the books displayed by the vendors. During the exhibition, the empanelled vendors setting up stalls with their latest editions of published books including textbooks and references from the leading publishers like Himalaya Publishing, Kalyani Publication, S Chand Publications, Sahitya Bhavan, Tata McGraw-Hill, Taxmann’s, Springer, Elsevier, CRC Press, Cambridge University Press, Chicago Press, Harvard University Press, Macmillan International, MIT Press, Wiley, World Scientific, Bloomsbury etc. to attract visitors. The faculty members and students of ARG College can review each book and recommend to strengthening the physical book collection of Central Library and well as Departmental Libraries. The main aim of book exhibitions is not only getting recommendations, but it can also play an important role in developing the reading habit among professionals and bringing the institute community together.

- To provide an open platform to institute faculty members/students and staff members to know recent editions of published books on their subject area/discipline.
- To facilitate to review and recommend the books for the Central Library and Departmental Library to strengthen the collection.
- To facilitate faculty members to procure the books using their PDA/PDF.
- To facilitate the institute community to buy the books from the personal funds on ARG College approved discounted rates.
- To develop the reading habits among institute fraternity.
Reader Assistance
The Library assists its users ranging from the location of a book to finding the specific information required by a user. A suggestion book is maintained with Incharge, Reader Services Division, where the users of the Library can suggest measures for improvements in its facilities and services apart from other ways of communication. Suggestions through E-mail, Whats App, etc. are also Welcome
IRINS
A.R.G. College Faculty Profiling System The Central Library in collaboration with the MHRD project IRINS has developed and launched a customized profiling system of A.R.G. College through which customized data of the institute and its faculty is available in the most presentable form at http://iitd.irins.org. It facilitates the Faculty members to collect, curate, and showcase scholarly communication activities and provides an opportunity to create a scholarly network. It has been integrated with Academic identities such as ORCiD ID, Scopus ID, Google Scholar ID, CrossRef, etc. for ingesting the scholarly publications from various sources. One can create/update profile using the VIDWAN site (https://vidwan.inflibnet.ac.in/login) and also can manually add the publications which are not listed.
Library Facilities for Physically Challenged Students
- Library is situated centrally at ground floor of college building for the convenience of physically challenged students.
- College has allotted a separate room/section in the central library for persons with disability.
- Library has received more than 1400 Audio Books (text books, reference books, competitive exam books and general reading books) 2 TB for Blind students. Library has already started uploading these books in our online /digital library and made available online under library website link to college website.
- Library is giving access to free online books available online for the blind students

Library Advisory Committee

LAC plays an advisory and advocacy role regarding the library on matters of general policy, planning, programs, goals, and objectives in its support of teaching, learning, research and community-building needs of the College.
Responsibilities
- Advises and reviews library policies for instruction, resources, services, and the facility
- Advises regarding library services, especially innovation, for the campus community
- Discuss and evaluate budgetary issues for books, journals, databases, media, e-resources etc.
- Reviews benchmarking reports with peer institutions for resources, staffing, and services
- Ensures the library is connected with and supports the College’s academic programs.
- Represent the views of the Library’s stakeholders on library and information services
- Deliberate and advise on the direction and development of policies for library and information services to ensure the best possible support is provided
- Recommend new collections and promote contributions to link Institutional Knowledge at College-by-College community for the dissemination and preservation of AUD’s intellectual and institutional knowledge
- Support the Library’s efforts in ensuring financial accountability and responsibility in the provision of library collections
- Propose and champion opportunities in bringing together College community in the library to advance knowledge and information sharing
- Promote the Library to the internal and external community
