The Department of Commerce was established in the year 1973. Since its establishment it is offering B.Com& BBM/BBA courses in UG Programme and introduced M.Com PG Programme in the year 2013-14. At the beginning the courses were affiliated to University of Mysore, later to Kuvempu University and now it is affiliated to Davangere University. All the programmes are of semester scheme and from 2021-22 NEP has been implemented for UG Programme through the state. The department strictly adheres to the syllabus and regulation of Davangere University The department is run by Two Permanent teaching staff. SmtAnitha Kumari J, Assistant Professor & HOD is M.Phil graduate and Smt. Rashmi P, Assistant professor is qualified in NET. Sufficient numbers of guest faculties are appointed to the remaining workload. One full time lecturer Kum. Sowmya S Achar, with the qualification of SLET is appointed to manage PG programme. Prof. P.L.Lokesha Reddy, Retd Associate Professor, is the senior visiting faculty for PG. Programme. Department takes the assistance of one technical staff appointed on temporary basis by the management and no separate administrative staff is provided to the department. The faculties of the department have participated in number of state, national and international seminars, workshops and conferences. Till now the department has produced good number of students being placed in different positions and self employed. Project work is mandatory for M.Comprogramme. Two of our M.Com students have cleared NET. Till now 4 M.Com students have secured ranks in university examination.

One computer is installed in commerce department staff room with internet facility for staff and for students the facility is available in the respective laboratory. Two class rooms with smart board and a projector is installed to encourage ICT teaching. Students of the department are benefitted by Scholarship given by the department of Social Welfare, Government of Karnataka (for SC/ST/OBC/BCM Category students. In the interest of the students the department organizes seminars, workshops, group discussions in the class room. The department conducts special lectures by inviting eminent personalities from university & various parts of Karnataka. Students of the department enroll themselves for NSS and NCC to be involved in social activities and participate in institutional social responsibility. The department adopted Conventional as well as interactive method of teaching. Use of Power point presentation and Reciprocal method of teaching is adopted by the faculties of the department.
