The college started functioning independently after bifurcation from DRM Science college in the year 1973 with a vision and forethought to provide extensive study opportunities in the field of arts, commerce and management to the aspiring students of local Davangere and the neighbouring districts in order to meet the socio economic and commercial needs of the society.
The name of the donor AjjampuradaRangappaGovindaswamy is perpetuated by naming the college as ARG as a token of gratitude for his munificent donation.
The college has been functioning strictly by adhering to its vision and mission objectives to satisfy the needs of both students, parents and other stakeholders of the society and thereby it has earned a very good reputation in the society.
