Davangere is in the centre of Karnataka. Earlier it was a place of many vegetable oil and cotton industries and earned name as ‘Manchester’ of Karnataka. Now it is the centre of higher education and is often called as ‘Oxford’ of Karnataka.
Bapuji Educational Association (BEA) was established in July, 1958 and registered under the Registration of Societies Act, 1904. The Registered office of the Association is situated in Davangere. The association celebrated Golden Jubilee in the year 2012. It has been functioning, keeping in view the educational necessity of the people starting from L.KG to PG programmes, and professional courses like Medical, Dental, Engineering, Diploma, Nursing and Management programmes. As a result, students from east to west, north to south are coming to this place fulfill their educational needs. Hence, the place in often called as the Oxford of Karnataka.
To fulfillthe educational needs of people from all walks of life in and around Davangere, ARG College was started as an independent college of BEA with a munificent donation by Sri AjjampuradaRangappaGovindaswamy whose name is perpetuated by naming it as A.R.G. College of Arts and Commerce. The college is affiliated to Davangere University.
From the year of establishment the college has been offering courses in Humanities (B.A), Commerce (B.Com) andManagement (BBM) which are the basic needs of the society & the areas.
To meet the needs of the growing strength of the students, the new block was constructed by the management in 2000 and M.Comprogramme was also started from the academic year 2013-14.
