The National Service Schemewas inaugurated on 24th September, 1969 at national level by the then union education minister Dr. A.K.R.V Rao. In tune with Gandhi’s dream that the students should take up and work towards social responsibility, the philosophy of NSS was conceptualize.
The Symbol of the National Service Service Scheme, as appearing on the cover is based on the ‘Rath’ wheel of the Konark- Sun Temple of Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signify the move e t in life across time and space. The design of the symbol, a simplified form of the Sun-chariot wheel, primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life. It stands for continuity as well as change and implies on the part of the NSS for continuous striving for social transformation and upliftment.
About NSS
National Service Scheme (NSS) has been playing a very important role in enriching the souls and minds of the students of the college since long time. The overall objective of this scheme is Education and Service to society and by the community. It is a scheme for students to provide to the needs of the community, as and when necessary. It will also help the students to converse with society. The students joining this scheme build up many behavioral interactive skills. They visit the rural areas as NSS volunteers during the camps organized by the college. The NSS volunteers take initiative in developing a Technocratic Environment and also help the deprived people to develop themselves. The scheme promotes the aptitude to present them in an improved way. Thus the eventual goal of the scheme is to endeavor to inculcate the bond of patriotism, national integration, brotherhood, gender equality, communal harmony among these volunteers
National Service Scheme cell in Davangere university came into being in the year 2010. The NSS unit of our college is affiliated to Davanger university’s NSS Cell. Presently there is one unit consisting of 100 Volunteers.

V.The fundamental objective of NSS is Twofold, viz.
1. Development of students’ personality in order to make them good citizens.
2. Motivating the students to imbibe the culture of social service. On the basis of these two basic principles the aims and objectives of NSS unit are framed-
1. To understand various social issues and also the problems of surrounding areas.
2. To identify the social needs and contemplate upon their implementation.
3. To know the civic duties and act promptly accordingly.
4. To develop the culture of dignity of labour and also of work culture.
5. To develop the culture of secularism, coexistence, tolerance, respecting the law and the spirit of scientific enquiry as well as strong sense of nationalism.
6. To develop the qualities of the leadership.
7. To instill and enhance capability of management skills.
8. To impart and train in disaster management in the events of natural calamities and also in the rescue operations.
9. To provide the spirit of maintaining the law and order and also tranquility in society.
10.To enrich personality

Sri Mallikarjun R Halasangi, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science was in- charge as NSS programme officer. After his retirement, Dr. H.R Thippeswamy, Assistant Professor, Department of Kannada took charge as NSS programme officer from the academic year 2021-22.
The NSS unit of our college is truly putting efforts towards realizing the aims and objectives of vision of the NSS. For this, the care is being taken to organize activities on a daily, weekly as well as monthly basis. Apart from these, the volunteers are deputed to attend the camps being arranged by other colleges and also by the university.
One of our volunteer by name Karibasappa R.J, a final year BA students was selected to participate in 2016 Republic Day celebration held in Bengaluru on 26th January 2016.
