The Department of Economics Foundedin the year 1973under the able leadership of Pro.KShadakshariyappa – former Head of the Departmentand College. The Department of Economics has made a quantitative and qualitative contribution to Under Graduate Education and Research in Economics since its inception.Presently, Dr. G.B. Boraiah, Associate Professor and Head of the Institution, specialised in the Cooperative Finance,Rural Development and Tribal Studies has produced two research books and published Nine research articles which have appeared in Journals of National and International repute and currently guiding four Ph.D. students out of which two students awarded Ph.D. of the department of Developmental studies and Tribal Studies of Kannada HampiUniversity, Department strength also consists of two Guest lectures specialised in varied areas of Economics.
The vision of the department of Economics consists of exploring the economic study and analysis, policy framing and implementation issues faced by the Indian Economy along with the analysis of other Economies in the world. The department thrives to reach standards of excellence in teaching, research and consultancy. The department of Economics recognise the growing demand for trained manpower in Industry, Government, Research and other sectors as well as nurturing future researchers and specialities in Economics. We try to meet this demand in a committed manner.
The diversity of specialisations of the Departmental faculty has promoted multifaced study and research at the Department and has brought a certain depth to the UG course as well. The Department earlierOffered a Degree (Three Years) Course in the stream of History, Economics, Political Science (B.A.) and now in the Stream of Economics and Political Science. The department is faring well in terms of exam results in our college.
